What good is love and peace on earth?
When it's exclusive?
Where's the truth in the written word?
If no one reads it
A new day dawning
Comes without warning
So don't blink twice
We live in troubled times
We live in troubled times
What part of history we learned
When it's repeated
Some things will never overcome
If we don't seek it
The world stops turning
Paradise burning
So don't think twice
We live in troubled times
We live in troubled times
We live in troubled times
We run for cover
Like a skyscraper's falling down
Then I wander like a troubled mind
What good is love and peace on earth?
When it's exclusive
Where's the truth in the written word?
If no one reads it
A new day dawning
Comes without warning
So don't look twice
We live in troubled times
We live in troubled times
We live in troubled times
We live in troubled times
We live in troubled times
We live in troubled times
Back to my roots.
Τα σταφύλια της οργής, ο μονόλογος του Tom (Henry Fonda)
Tom: I been thinking about us, too,
about our people living like pigs and good rich land layin’ fallow. Or
maybe one guy with a million acres and a hundred thousand farmers
starvin’. And I been wonderin’ if all our folks got together and yelled…
Ma: Oh, Tommy, they’d drag you out and cut you down just like they done to Casey.
Tom: They’d drag me anyways. Sooner or later they’d get me for one thing if not for another. Until then…
Ma: Tommy, you’re not aimin’ to kill nobody.
Tom: No, Ma, not that. That ain’t it.
It’s just, well as long as I’m an outlaw anyways… maybe I can do
somethin’… maybe I can just find out somethin’, just scrounge around and
maybe find out what it is that’s wrong and see if they ain’t somethin’
that can be done about it. I ain’t thought it out all clear, Ma. I
can’t. I don’t know enough.
Ma: How am I gonna know about ya, Tommy? Why they could kill ya and I’d never know. They could hurt ya. How am I gonna know?
Tom: Well, maybe it’s like Casy says.
A fellow ain’t got a soul of his own, just little piece of a big soul,
the one big soul that belongs to everybody, then…
Ma: Then what, Tom?
Tom: Then it don’t matter. I’ll be
all around in the dark – I’ll be everywhere. Wherever you can look –
wherever there’s a fight, so hungry people can eat, I’ll be there.
Wherever there’s a cop beatin’ up a guy, I’ll be there. I’ll be in the
way guys yell when they’re mad. I’ll be in the way kids laugh when
they’re hungry and they know supper’s ready, and when the people are
eatin’ the stuff they raise and livin’ in the houses they build – I’ll
be there, too.
Ma: I don’t understand it, Tom.
Tom: Me, neither, Ma, but – just somethin’ I been thinkin’ about.
Sucker love is heaven sent.
You pucker up, our passion's spent.
My hearts a tart, your body's rent.
My body's broken, yours is bent.
Carve your name into my arm.
Instead of stressed, I lie here charmed.
Cuz there's nothing else to do,
Every me and every you.
Sucker love, a box I choose.
No other box I choose to use.
Another love I would abuse,
No circumstances could excuse.
In the shape of things to come.
Too much poison come undone.
Cuz there's nothing else to do,
Every me and every you.
Every me and every you,
Every Me...he
Sucker love is known to swing.
Prone to cling and waste these things.
Pucker up for heavens sake.
There's never been so much at stake.
I serve my head up on a plate.
It's only comfort, calling late.
Cuz there's nothing else to do,
Every me and every you.
Every me and every you,
Every Me...he
Every me and every you,
Every Me...he
Like the naked leads the blind.
I know I'm selfish, I'm unkind.
Sucker love I always find,
Someone to bruise and leave behind.
All alone in space and time.
There's nothing here but what here's mine.
Something borrowed, something blue.
Every me and every you.
Every me and every you,
Every Me...he
